01. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-9) - Part A 11:13
02. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-9) - Part B 13:42
No sax solo at the end of the first half yet. Some of the soloing is different. No backing vocals yet.
03. Welcome To The Machine 4:42
04. Have A Cigar 7:30
05. Sheep (Raving and Drooling) 10:34
This one is still more bare bones than its final version. There are less lyrics. The lyrics are pretty much the way it was sung in 1974 on tour. Again a lot of the music is now in place that would end up on the album. The guitar is not quite there yet, missing some of the anger Gilmour added into his playing. Noticeably, the line “zig zag their way between boredom and pain” is used which would later be reused and altered slightly for “Pigs On The Wing”.
06. Dogs 13:31
07. Pigs (Three Different Ones) 11:34
Being that this song was the newest of the batch, the demo version of this is closer to the final album version. These are definitely different takes. There are parts missing that would end up on the final mix. Roger’s vocals are definitely a different take but are fairly close to the same phrasing as the album version.
08. Sheep Sound Effects 0:36
NOTES:
Remember the fuss that came around the Beatles ‘John Barrett’ tapes or the ‘Revolution’ leak? This could, subjectively, be Pink Floyd’s answer to that. - collectorsmusicreviews.com
This is a single disc of unreleased demos and outtakes from Abbey Road Studios 1975 that circulated on a torrent site as the Extraction Tapes. Another version of The Extraction Tapes has also appeared on vinyl.
I received these files from a collector friend in the last couple of days. It sounds to me like Animals has been taken from an improved copy of the source used for the earlier ‘Extraction Tapes’ vinyl release. Sources appear to have been speed corrected. Sound is way better than the vinyl transfers I’ve heard. All in all an amazing release.
Rob Goodman on the two-CD set from Japan that is transferred from vinyl:
I definitely think this collection is a must have. Much of this is “holy grail” material that many of us didn’t even know existed. It’s a shame someone held it back for profit all of these years. It’s also a glimpse of the material that could come to light if there were to be an Animals Immersion box set. But Animals is always treated as the redheaded stepchild of the catalog so that will probably never happen. You simply have to piece one together yourself.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-9) has been arbitrarily split for easier access.

From The Pink To The Blue
The departure of Roger Waters from Pink Floyd was both a blessing and a curse for David Gilmour. Some Floyd fans and critics at the time thought that Waters had completely taken over the band, stifling the musical expressions of the others. After The Final Cut, Waters was gone and David Gilmour elected to move forward with his second solo album called About Face. This venture allowed Gilmour to showcase his talents outside of the sphere of Pink Floyd and freed him to explore different styles of music. This time, David Gilmour asked Bob Ezrin to help with the production of the album. Mr. Ezrin had produced The Wall and later was instrumental in returning Pink Floyd to the stage in 1987. Dave then formed his band by bringing together musicians from many different spheres of music. These included drummer Jeff Porcaro from Toto, Anne Dudley from The Art of Noise and even contributions from Steve Winwood and Pete Townshend.
Pete Townshend helped David Gilmour write both Love On The Air and All Lovers Are Deranged. When asked about this collaboration David made the following statement: “I had lyrics for those songs but I really didn't like them. I asked him for help because I was running short on time and even shorter on inspiration for improving the lyrics. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got the cassette back for Love On The Air. I like where he had put the line and how he had done the vocal. I had heard the vocal line in a completely different place and deliberately sent Pete a tape with no melody on it. It was just a completed backing track with no lines on it at all and no ideas as to what I thought the lyrics should be. He didn't have any restrictions. Of course in some places which I intended to be instrumental, he put words on. Lovers was the same situation, only I changed the placing of his melody and lyrics a bit”. 1985
David Gilmour began the About Face tour with a brief appearance on British Television on March 30th 1984, playing just two songs from his new album. This was followed the next day by the first full concert in Dublin at the National Stadium. Gilmour’s set consisted of a collection of the best songs from his two solo albums and, inevitably a few Pink Floyd songs as well. The European leg of the tour consisted of 23 performances including 4 nights at the Hammersmith Odeon during which a concert video was recorded featuring a surprise guest appearance by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. The group then went to North America where 48 more shows were played. Beginning in Quebec on May 9th, this part of the tour took the troop across the United States to California, back East to Florida and ended with a final performance on July 16th in New York City.
The show we bring you here was recorded in San Diego on June 20th 1984, their first day in California. With an open air venue the sound will be a bit different than most audience recordings presented by PRRP. However, we feel that this performance shows David Gilmour and his solo band to be polished, versatile and a musical force in its own right; no small feat given the reputation of a band like Pink Floyd. The taper of this show remembers it well and provided us with the following details of that performance, “As for the mix, the way I taped that show was with a stereo Sony that had built in microphones. I used to hang it around my neck and let it hang around my chest area to get good lines with the speaker. If security would arrive, I would slightly lean one way or the other to keep the recorder out of view. You can hear the sound shift when I did that, but it is only brief and occasional. Since I was in the second row, I*most likely got a bad mix anyway, monitors mostly, the PA system was too far on the sides to get the full blast of the mix. I
remember that I had a great time. The show was phenomenal. Jody Linscott was just starting to show her pregnancy and Mick Ralphs just tore up his solos. My buddy went up and placed a one dollar bill on the stage right in front of David Gilmour as he was wailing away on (the song) Money, he broke his concentration briefly, looking up at our group and smiling with the head nod, it was a hi-five all around. To stand in front of Gilmour, 3 feet away, and watch this guy for two hours was a dream come true”.
There were those who were concerned that the departure of Roger Waters from Pink Floyd would leave that band without a stable musical driving force. With this year of solo work, David Gilmour answered those concerns and showed that even without Waters, Pink Floyd was still well endowed with musical talent and that they could carry on despite the loss of one of their most noted members.
Notes from the Re-master
This show comes to us as a master cassette tape. It was digitised using 32-bit format and 24-bit resolution. Analysis revealed music signal up to 11,000Hz. The complete show is here so no patches were necessary but the tape flips and change from tape 1 to tape 2 needed to be mixed. The taper provided us with the details regarding his location in the audience as noted above.
Hiss was a moderate problem that was reduced using selective techniques. Crackle was also present throughout the show and needed separate techniques to be reduced. Given the frequency response of the recorder, the midrange was too harsh so filters were applied to reduce this excess. An imbalance between the two channels was present and a 12% correction was necessary. The mix does change through the show. During the first few songs the sound, in particular the vocals, are a bit distant even though we know the taper was in the second row. This improves by the time Cruise is played. Applause was attenuated where necessary and other noises such as feedback, clicks and pops were removed. The show was then tracked, converted to 16-bit and placed in audio format.

Nice stereo separation at beginning of Rattle That Lock and Money

Pink Floyd: Just Warmin' Up (the Rehearsals in Tampa)
Tampa Stadium
Tampa, Florida
May 6, 1994
Soundcheck before show
(Covers Included)
Tracks:
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V)
2. High Hopes
3. Breathe
4. Time/Breathe Reprise (very sudden ending!)
5. The Great Gig In the Sky
6. Lost For Words
7. Wish You Were Here
8. Money (another sudden ending)
9. Us and Them
Notes: The soundboard nature of the source sounds doubtful in places, but the
recording quality appears to improve somewhat starting with 'Lost For Words,'
which restored my faith. The source is not without its flaws (unstable separation,
dropouts, etc.), but these are relatively minor; overall this is a great recording of
an unusually lengthy rehearsal/soundcheck, with Dave taking occasional considerable
liberties with lyrics. ("Up and sideways.....", "Shine on you crazy bastard")
(Taken from pf-roio.de)
Band:
David Gilmour - Guitar/Vocals
Nick Mason - Drums
Rick Wright - Keyboards/Vocals
Guy Pratt - Bass/Vocals
Jon Carin - Keyboards/Vocals
Tim Renwick - Guitar
Gary Wallis - Percussion
Dick Parry - Saxophone
Durga McBroom - Backing Vocals
Sam Brown - Backing Vocals

David Gilmour - 2016-03-27 - L.A. 3rd Night (XAVEL) (MOB remaster)
David Gilmour - 2016-03-27 - L.A. 3rd Night (XAVEL) (MOB remaster)
Original bootleg CD "L.A. 3rd Night" ref. XAVEL-SMS-068
MOB remastering:
- attenuation of saturation (hard limiting used on the bootleg)
- EQ to add more depth and improve clarity
- levels adjustments
CD1:
1. Opening S.E.
2. 5 A.M.
3. Rattle That Lock
4. Faces of Stone
5. Wish You Were Here
6. What Do You Want From Me
7. A Boat Lies Waiting
8. The Blue
9. Money
10. Us and Them
11. In Any Tongue
12. High Hopes
13. Astronomy Dominé
CD2:
1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
2. Fat Old Sun
3. Coming Back to Life
4. Band introduction
5. The Girl in the Yellow Dress
6. Today
7. Sorrow
8. Run Like Hell
9. Time
10. Breathe Reprise
11. Comfortably Numb
Notes:
The original bootleg is mainly from IEM (In-Ears Monitors) source, offering excellent details and a sound where the instruments are sharp and close. However, the original mastering of the bootleg was a disaster: hard limiting was used, causing a lot of saturation during loud parts; bass is lacking during all the show, especially for The Blue, Money, Us And Them, Sorrow and Run Like Hell; medium frequencies are too prominent compared to the higher frequencies, resulting in a narrow sound without clarity.
This remaster tries to correct all these defaults, in order to have the best possible sound quality. Now the recording really breathes, with warmness and clarity at the same time. The level of details of the IEM source is incredible, as well as the closeness of the instruments (like the drums, that have an "in your face" quality lacking in most audience recordings). Last but not least, the piercing high frequency feedback in the middle of Run Like Hell was totally removed.
Enjoy!

Recorder 2 master tapes
unknown recorder (mono?)
Transfer:
borrowed master cassettes > Nakamichi BX-2 (azimuth adjusted) line out > Radio Shack gold rca plugs to 3.5mm stereo plug > Zoom H2 line in @ 24 bit 96 khz > SDHC memory card > computer HDD
Restoration:
Adobe Audition 3 automatic phase correction tool: to repair most of the phasing caused by master tape azimuth drift. The source recording appears to be from a machine with a mono microphone, but the low quality of the master recording machine caused a certain amount of WOW and flutter to be recorded on the master tapes. Not only did the tape wobble a bit during the show, but it sounds like the tape shifted from side to side as the taper flipped over his recording deck. In other words, the tape that passed over the recording heads of the machine during the concert didn't do it evenly. The tape kind of wiggled and squiggled a little bit, so the track of the recording on the actual tape isn't quite in a perfectly straight line like it should be - it slowly drifts back and forth across the tape, causing some strange audible phasing in the mono recording original master transfer. The playback azimuth was calibrated to a best average for each tape side, but the extremes of tape tension at the start and end of each tape side caused more wobble. The Audition APC tool corrected a lot of this problem, but some audible artifacts of this analog tape "error" remain...
Enhancements:
*Waves Q10 Paragraphic EQ: to tonally balance the frequency spectrum. I set this plug-in up to minimize a low-mid spike, enhance the entire top end, and find the nearly hidden bass! It was only minor cosmetic surgery EQ that I applied with a very light touch...
*SHEPPi Free Spatial Enhancer Open Ambience Project: to enhance the immersive effect of sound that surrounds the listener. My opinion of all those reflected sounds seemed to be a thick wall of low mid mush. The original master kind of sounded a little to me like I was listening to this show in this cavernous stadium through a 50 foot long Christmas wrapping paper tube that was stuck into a hole drilled into the wall of BC Place! haha. All that sound coming through this one tiny pinhole, basically. All those different random delayed reflected sounds bouncing off all the walls and floor and domed roof and seats and stunned faces of the standing spectators, all mixing down together in the air and covering up and masking over the direct sounds from a straight line from the speakers to that single point microphone, all down to that one signal! Yikes! I set this plug-in up to split and move a lot of that lower-mid end reflected natural reverb echo mushiness to the sides a little bit, allowing the upper end clarity to cut through a little bit more and fall into it's proper place in the middle. I believe firmly that it sounds a lot more "like you're there" with SHEPPi properly applied, on headphones especially. I think I hear more stuff in the music, more detail. It feels like I'm now in the building rather than listening to the show through a series of tubes...
*BBE D82 Sonic Maximizer: to strengthen the impact of the sound upon the listener. Adds "focus" to a final mix. Enhances tonality without E.Q., it is used sparingly here to give the kick drum a bit of "oomph" and to clean up the highs...

Please, A Momentary Lapse Into Reason!*
“Pink Floyd had become a spent force creatively, and this should be recognised in order to maintain the integrity and reputation of the group name … It is only realistic and honest to admit that the group has in practical terms disbanded and should be allowed to retire gracefully from the music scene.” – Roger Waters
“The strength of Pink Floyd always lay in the talents of all four members. Naturally we will miss Roger’s artistic input. However, we will continue to work together, as in the past.” – David Gilmour*
“I’d love to see the Floyd back together, because it’s been such a terrible waste. The chemistry between the band (members) was such that the sum of the parts was far greater than their individual offerings. Dave and Roger complemented one another so well.” - Nick Griffiths*
“My worst nightmare? Roger back in Pink Floyd” - Nick Mason*
“Roger laughed once a year” – David Gilmour
*
It is said that all things must pass. After the album The Final Cut, the band known as Pink Floyd would be changed forever. As fans we would no longer have the four members that gave us Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall. For both stated and unstated reasons, Roger Waters left Pink Floyd, never to return again. In the absence of Waters, Gilmour and Mason called upon many within the music world to help them with their new album, A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Initially, another concept album was envisioned. For this, Eric Stewart from 10cc was asked to help as were English poet Roger McGough and songwriter Carole Pope. When this approach seemed unworkable, a more traditional album was planned.*Numerous sessions took place which eventually led to the material for the new album. Phil Manzanera, guitarist for Roxy Music, collaborated on the song One Slip. Anthony Moore, from the band Slap Happy, co-wrote the lyrics to Learning to Fly, On the Turning Away and The Dogs of War. Joe Carin also helped write Learning
To Fly, which was based in part on David Gilmour’s own experience becoming a pilot. Carin was then asked to help play keyboards on the album. Pat Leonard, producer for Madonna, co-wrote Yet Another Movie and played synthesizers on the album. But in the end, some say the biggest outside influence on the new Pink Floyd album was Bob Ezrin. As a former producer of The Wall, the band knew him well and it was understandable that Gilmour would turn to him for assistance during the turbulent time after Waters' departure. Not only did Ezrin co-produce A Momentary Lapse of Reason with David Gilmour, but he also played keyboard, percussion and sequencers for a number of the tracks. To the delight of many, Mason and Gilmour invited Richard Wright back into the fold. Yet with most of the keyboard segments already written for the album by Ezrin, Carin and Leonard, Wright could only contribute backing vocals and supporting piano or organ segments before returning to his position of keyboard master during the live tour. They also secured the talents of Tony Levin to take the place of Roger Waters on Bass and two additional drummers: Jim Keltner and Rod Stewart’s former drummer Carmine
Appice. ***********
The tour began with trepidation because the band had not played live since 1981. Promoters were unsure if a 1970’s band like Pink Floyd could still fill venues 6 years after their last performance. But much to the surprise of everyone, including Roger Waters, the shows sold out overnight. After one show scheduled in Toronto sold out with tickets being purchased as fast as they could be printed, two more shows were added and sold out just as quickly. Once word got out that “The Floyd” was back was selling out venues, other cities competed for the band’s attention. After four weeks of practice in a Toronto airplane hanger the new Pink Floyd was ready again to provide their fans with live performances. They started in Buffalo, New York on September 7th, 1987 and continued through North America, ending the tour with 2 shows in Vancouver 3 months later. What we bring you here was recorded on November 30th, 1987, the fifth show of a six night stay at the Los Angeles Sports Area. This quality master recording can show the world that in 1987, Pink Floyd still had musical avenues to explore and still cared very much about their earlier music as well, much to everyone’s delight.*
Notes from the Re-Master
*
This show is taken from the master cassette used to record the concert. To our knowledge, this show has never been available before in any form. The cassettes were digitized using 24 bit resolution and 32 bit formatting. Harmonics were detected up to 11,000 Hz. Hiss was quite high and needed a major reduction. Bass was quite deficient and was universally boosted. Inconsistent dynamic variations were adjusted to make for a more flowing presentation. With a low volume recording this allowed enough room to make tonality adjustment before final normalization. A few patches were needed during tape flips but should not be too noticeable as outside sources were not necessary. Audience applause and other noises were reduced in volume as much as possible with respect to the music; these included applause, yells and a bit of colorful language. During the processing we detected that an audience member yells one slip to announce the performance of this rarely played song. We also noticed a bit of improvisation at the end of welcome to the machine. The show was balanced between the two discs as a final step.

Discovered the entire show was phase shifted. It varied a bit increasing gradually til the end. Correcting the phasing made it more solid and bit more upfront. Also removed about 25 of the prominent pops, tics and mic bumps as well as a few small gaps within the show, and trimmed more from the end and beginning. It was a little left channel weighted, perhaps from azimuth misalignment along the way. Increased the gain of the right channel as well as targeted modifications throughout. After modifications, the peak level changed from 85% on the SC-E version to 70% on this version. Some notes related to my previous modifications included below the track list. Artwork included.

Speed corrected to within 0.1% of the R&D 4th gen version "Dream Dimension" and moved "Set The Controls" to its proper position. I cut only dead air, no content when the recorder was recording. Also, this recording was at a very low level perhaps since it was transferred many years ago with an old sound card. Its peak level was at 34%, so I increased the gain/normalized to a peal level of 85% or +8db.
A couple other things to note. There was a section repeated on the original shn file. Approximately 52:07 - 54:08 (after STC) was repeated from roughly 78:46 - 80:47 (Before Cymbaline). Also, its appears that the following audience/tuning segments on "Dream Dimensions" are missing from the original shn file. "Dream Dimension" D1T6 (pre-Echoes) 0:35 - 1:23 and D1T8 (Pre-STC) 0:29 - 1:47. Also, at the very beginning of the shn file a segment of the audience/intro was repeated as if a false start during the transfer. There was also a 8-10 second mystery segment in this section as well. Eventually the transfer started and continued normally. After SOS at the very end there was a 8-10 tuning segment probably from the artist Karmamania mentioned in his notes. None of this is really surprising since Karmamania said in his notes, "This was a work in progress copy and of course in the future it will need to be done again but here it is now.......Overall definitely sounds slow....."

***Previous Modifications Notes*** "PF19710813 Karmamania's 1st Gen SC-E"
None of this is really surprising since Karmamania said in his notes, "This was a work in progress copy and of course in the future it will need to be done again but here it is now.......Overall definitely sounds slow....."

distinctly longer and better sounding than the JFG remaster.
this comes from a second generation tape, no NR used.
Eclipse is still missing and Brain Damage is cut! ... so does not exist a version including more, this taper didn't get anything else!
